Medical Eye Conditions We Treat

01

Eye Exams & Dry Eye Treatment

Routine eye exams are important for detecting early changes before vision loss occurs. We evaluate vision, eye pressure, lens clarity, retina health, and overall eye function, especially for patients with diabetes, high blood pressure, or other medical conditions.

For patients experiencing irritation, burning, redness, tearing, or that “gritty/sandy” feeling. These are common signs of Dry Eye Syndrome. Dry eye can be caused by age, screen time, hormones, medications, autoimmune disease, and more.

Common symptoms include:

  • Burning or stinging sensation
  • Feeling like something is “in” the eye
  • Excessive tearing
  • Blurry or fluctuating vision
  • Redness or irritation
  • Dryness and discomfort after screen use

We provide complete medical evaluation of dry eye with customized treatment plans that may include lubricating drops, prescription drops, warm compress therapy, meibomian gland treatment recommendations, and lifestyle modifications to help soothe the eyes and protect long-term ocular surface health.

02

Cataracts & After-Cataract Care

Cataracts occur when the natural lens inside the eye becomes cloudy. This is most common with age. Patients often describe their vision as foggy, hazy, or like they are looking through cloudy glass. Cataracts can make it harder to see at night, read small print, or drive comfortably.

If you are looking for cataract evaluation, medical management, or post-surgical cataract care, Dr. Jallow provides full cataract assessment and follow-up support.

You may notice:

• Blurry or hazy vision
• Glare or halos around lights
• Colors looking faded
• Needing more light to read
• Frequent changes in your glasses prescription
• Night driving is becoming more difficult

Some patients who already had cataract surgery develop a cloudy film behind the artificial lens later on. This is called Posterior Capsular Opacification, sometimes referred to as an “after-cataract.” Dr. Jallow provides in-office YAG Laser Capsulotomy to clear this film and restore clearer vision when needed.

Cataract symptoms can overlap with other eye diseases like macular degeneration or diabetic retinopathy, so a proper medical eye exam is important to determine the correct cause of vision changes.

03

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a disease that damages the optic nerve, often linked to high eye pressure. It is one of the leading causes of permanent vision loss, and it usually happens silently. Most patients have no pain and no early warning signs until the disease is advanced — which is why regular medical eye exams are so important.

If you are looking for long-term glaucoma monitoring, second opinions on glaucoma evaluation, or follow up care after being diagnosed with glaucoma elsewhere, Dr. Jallow provides complete medical management and ongoing surveillance.

Signs and symptoms that may appear as glaucoma progresses include:

• Gradual loss of peripheral vision
• Difficulty seeing in low light
• Tunnel vision in advanced stages
• Blurry or hazy vision
• Eye pressure that feels “full” or uncomfortable (not always)

Other conditions can also cause similar symptoms including cataracts, retinal disease, ocular hypertension, and optic nerve swelling, so proper medical evaluation is essential.

Glaucoma-related Conditions We Evaluate and Treat Include:
• Primary Open Angle Glaucoma
• Narrow Angle / Angle Closure risk
• Ocular Hypertension (high pressure without damage yet)
• Glaucoma Suspect evaluations
• Monitoring after glaucoma surgery or laser procedures

Routine monitoring, pressure checks, and imaging help protect the optic nerve and preserve vision over time.

04

Diabetic Eye Disease

Diabetes & Diabetic Retinopathy

High blood sugar over time can damage the tiny blood vessels inside the eye. This is called Diabetic Retinopathy. Many people have no symptoms early on, which is why every diabetic needs routine medical eye exams — even if vision seems normal.

If you are looking for a physician to diagnose, monitor, or treat diabetic retinopathy or diabetic macular edema, Dr. Jallow provides full retina care including advanced imaging and in-office eye injections when needed.

Common symptoms may include:

• Blurry or fluctuating vision
• Dark floating spots or shadows
• Trouble seeing at night
• Straight lines appearing wavy or distorted
• Sudden changes in vision

Other causes of similar symptoms can include cataracts, macular degeneration, and vitreous hemorrhage, which is why proper medical evaluation is essential.

Diabetic Eye Diseases We Treat Include:
• Diabetic Retinopathy (Non-Proliferative and Proliferative)
• Diabetic Macular Edema
• Vitreous Hemorrhage (bleeding inside the eye)
• Retinal Ischemia (poor blood flow from diabetes)
• Diabetic-related Vision Loss or Distortion

Early diagnosis and consistent follow-up help preserve eyesight and prevent permanent vision loss related to diabetes.

05

Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)

Macular Degeneration is a condition that affects the central part of the retina (the macula) and can cause gradual loss of central vision. It becomes more common with age. Patients may notice trouble reading, recognizing faces, or seeing detail clearly — even when their side (peripheral) vision still seems normal.

If you are looking for monitoring or treatment for Wet or Dry Macular Degeneration, or if you have been told you are “at risk” for AMD, Dr. Jallow provides complete retina evaluation, ongoing surveillance, and treatment including in-office injections for Wet AMD when needed.

Common symptoms may include:

• Blurry or missing spots in the center of vision
• Words on a page appear faded or unclear
• Trouble reading fine print
• Difficulty recognizing faces
• Straight lines appearing curved, bent, or wavy

Other eye conditions that may cause similar symptoms include diabetic macular edema, cataracts, retinal swelling, and macular scars — which is why proper retinal imaging is necessary to confirm the diagnosis.

Macular Conditions We Evaluate and Treat Include:
• Dry Macular Degeneration (early and intermediate stages)
• Wet Macular Degeneration (advanced)
• Macular Edema
• Macular Scarring
• Vision Distortion due to macular disease

Early detection and regular follow-up help protect central vision and maintain the ability to read, drive, and recognize faces.

06

Retina Care

The retina is the light-sensitive tissue in the back of the eye responsible for sending visual signals to the brain. When the retina is damaged, swollen, or pulled, it can cause distortion, dark spots, flashes, floaters, or sudden vision loss.

If you are searching for a physician who specializes in retina evaluation, retinal disease management, or in-office injection treatment, Dr. Jallow provides comprehensive medical retina care for a wide range of retinal conditions.

We provide diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment for retinal diseases including:

• Age-Related Macular Degeneration (Wet and Dry)
• Diabetic Retinopathy and Diabetic Macular Edema
• Retinal Vein Occlusions
• Vitreous Hemorrhage
• Retinal Tears and Detachments
• Macular Edema and Macular Holes
• Vision distortion or central vision loss

Advanced retinal imaging and in-office injectable therapies are available for patients who need medical treatment to help stabilize or improve vision.

07

Floaters, Flashes & Retinal Tears

Floaters are small dark specks, strings, or cobweb-like shapes that move across your vision. Many floaters are harmless, especially as we age. However, new or sudden floaters can sometimes be a sign that the gel inside the eye (the vitreous) is pulling on the retina. When this pull creates light stimulation, patients often see flashes of light — especially in dim lighting or when looking side to side.

If you are looking for evaluation of new floaters, flashing lights, or sudden visual changes, Dr. Jallow provides same-day or urgent retina exams to rule out serious problems.

You may notice:

• New dark spots or moving shadows
• Cobweb-like strings drifting in your vision
• Flashes of light (especially in the corners)
• A sudden “shower” of floaters
• A dark curtain or shadow coming over part of your vision

It is important to know that floaters and flashes can sometimes be warning signs of a retinal tear or retinal detachment. These conditions can lead to permanent vision loss if not treated quickly.

Retina Conditions Related to Floaters and Flashes We Evaluate Include:
• Vitreous Detachment (PVD)
• Retinal Tears
• Retinal Detachments
• Vitreous Hemorrhage

Any sudden vision changes should be evaluated promptly, especially if there is a dark shadow, sudden drop in vision, or a large increase in floaters. This may require urgent treatment to protect sight.
